RYAN MURPHY

Ryan Murphy was appointed Associate Music Director of the Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square in 2009. In addition to assisting with the weekly broadcast of Music and the Spoken Word, he is also the conductor of the Chorale at Temple Square, an ensemble that prepares incoming singers for the Tabernacle Choir. He provides oversight and choral training for the Global Participant program, assists in recording production, conducts concerts with the Orchestra at Temple Square and frequently composes and arranges music for the choir’s numerous tours, concerts, and guest artist collaborations.


Dr. Murphy holds degrees in piano and organ performance and pedagogy and choral conducting from  brigham Young University, and a doctorate in choral conducting from Boston University where he was associated with the Tanglewood Institute. He has directed choirs at the New England Conservatory Preparatory School and the Walnut Hill School for the Arts and was the choir director and organist at St. Malachy Parish in Burlington, Massachusetts. He has significant experience in musical theatre and was the music director for the Sundance Institute and the Tuacahn Center for the Arts.


Dr. Murphy is an active clinician, guest conductor, composer, and arranger. His music is performed throughout the world. He and his wife, Jennifer, are the parents of four children.
