PHILIP ALLRED
Philip loves learning and teaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He recently joined the Church History & Doctrine faculty at BYU, bringing a wealth of
experience from three decades in Church religious education. His career spans BYU-Idaho, where he served as Department Chair, the BYU Jerusalem Center for Near Eastern Studies, and Seminaries & Institutes in Utah and Idaho.
Philip's academic background features bachelor’s and doctorate degrees in Political Science from BYU and ISU, and a master’s in theology from
Notre Dame. An enthusiasm for the power of experiential learning has taken him on more than a dozen educational tours across Europe, the
Mediterranean, and the Middle East with fellow learners of all ages.
Born in Ankara, Turkey, and having served a mission in Osaka, Japan, Philip most cherishes time with his family enjoying music, hiking and
biking, and gym sessions in pursuit his first true muscle-up. He is sealed to his wife, Jennifer, and they are parents of three grown children and one son-in-law.
